Synopsis:
Drama over 13 sex workers in Nanjing who volunteered to replace university students as companions to Japanese soldiers. In the novel, the American priest leads a church that shelters a group of prostitutes and young students during the invasion.
Historians say the slaughter, known in the West as "the rape of Nanking", ended with the slaughter of some 150 000 civilians. China estimates the number of victims at 300 000, making it one of the worst atrocities that occurred during the years of World War II.
